At the Lotus Room, we take special care to guide you through yoga according to your needs and aspirations. Yoga for complete beginners at the Lotus Room begins with an introductory workshop and continues within the same group session as intermediate and advanced students. First of all... Beginners are advised to attend the Yoga Foundation for Beginners workshop. This comprehensive introduction to yoga for complete beginners is held monthly and will prepare you for joining the regular classes. Once beginners join the mixed group yoga classes, they can gradually progress from the beginners’ version of a pose to a more advanced version as they advance in their practice. To this effect, we offer modifications on yoga poses for beginners to increase the challenge for intermediate and advanced students. What to expect Yoga is a wonderful journey of self-discovery with various practices to help you on your way. If you have never tried yoga, you may be a little apprehensive about what to expect. While there is no better way to discover yoga than by actually trying it out, let us give you the heads up to encourage you to take that first step. Familiarisation with yoga poses We introduce you to some of the basic yoga poses, their names and their correct execution. During a class, we guide you through different poses by their names and with practice, it becomes a very natural process. Familiarisation with your body We lead you to become fully present inside your body and acutely aware of it. This experience may come as a surprise. You learn how to breathe fully and how to synchronize movement with breath and experience their effects on your state of mind and physical ability. Familiarisation with the scope of yoga We introduce you to the origins of yoga and why it was practised by our ancestors. What is to be understood is that yoga is much more than a physical exercise; it is a path to Self-knowledge. The most common practices are yoga poses, meditation and breathing exercises. Furthermore, there are lifestyle recommendations, which purify the soul and lead to a happier life.
