Self Healing through Meditation

The power of meditation is often underestimated. We have a remarkable inner potential for self healing our body, mind and emotions by utilising the breath and stillness of meditation. Self healing through meditation happens as meditation offers direct access to our healing wisdom.
When we meditate, we initiate mental, emotional and physical healing on a deep level. The very process of meditating purges contamination on all levels.

Meditation is a process whereby we quietly observe our thoughts and feelings without attachment or aversion. We simply observe what arises and let it go, without identifying with it, bringing our attention back to presence. In the now, past and future do not exist except in thought form. When we realise that those thoughts are not who we are, we are able to watch them as one watches clouds moving across the conscious sky, and we remain situated in our essence.

We may be under the impression that, during meditation, we should reach a state of total stillness. In practice, that stillness represents our complete and utter presence, but meditation is not intended as acquiring a state of emptiness; it is not even one state, but a continually changing state of quiet intensity, in constant flux as nature itself, in which each breath makes us aware of our drama and brings about rebirth, transformation and healing.

The mind is fickle and arising thoughts may be mundane or they may be a subtle reflection of a lifetime of emotional bruising, which in turn affect the state of health of our material body and mind.

Trying to avoid thinking altogether, or certain thoughts, only gives them more power. Aversion is a sort of attachment … we are lending our energy to that thing or thought. Simply observing allows us to become aware of the current of thought, without tension, while remaining consciously present.

As emotional bruises float up as thoughts and we become aware of them, they lose their power and we realise that we no longer feel the pain. When we allow the bruises to float up, released from the place in our subconscious or unconscious mind where they previously resided, we are no longer emotionally haunted by the past. By releasing such emotional triggers during meditation, we give ourselves freedom from unconscious impulses and unwanted reactions.

When we are peaceful with our past and future, we are peaceful in the present. With such peace, the mind finds release from the weight of those thoughts and emotions and inspiration and creativity take their place instead. When our spirit is positive and our mind is free, our body experiences increased immunity, increased energy levels and good health. Meditation, therefore, is a natural recipe for inner harmony and overall well-being, with increased self awareness.

Meditation takes you deep into your human experience and life’s very essence. Every thought and every experience has a deep connection with your life. If you are just beginning your meditation practice, start with a very simple approach: accept every impulse or thought as part of your healing process. In this way, you can facilitate self healing through meditation.
